Healthcare and digital health

Fractional CTO for healthcare and digital health companies

One named CTO owns architecture, PHI, BAAs, and EHR integrations. The Maxiom engineering team in Ashburn, VA does the review work under that CTO.

Who it's for

Built for teams shipping health software.

Digital health founders making architecture calls themselves

Operators selling to hospitals, clinics, or payers

Products that store or transmit PHI

Products that depend on an EHR integration

What we hear

The health-tech calls are landing on you.

"A hospital asked who can see PHI. I do not have a list."

Founder, digital health

"The EHR integration is the product. Nobody owns what happens when it fails."

VP Product, clinical software

"We signed a BAA with our host. I cannot tell you what it covers."

COO, digital health

"A payer sent a security questionnaire. It is still in my inbox."

Founder, health tech

CTO 2.0 puts one senior person on those calls. Their name is on every decision.

What we do

What the CTO writes down.

The first 90 days

Look, decide, run. In writing.

Each phase ends with documents you keep, whether or not you keep us.

Days 1 to 3001

Look

NDA first, then read-only access. We map PHI, EHR connections, vendors, and BAAs.

  • PHI flow: where it enters, sits, and leaves
  • Vendor and BAA inventory
  • Risk register with a named owner per item
Days 31 to 6002

Decide

We make the open architecture and vendor calls and write each one down.

  • Decision log your team can read
  • What stays in the EHR integration, and what changes
  • Questionnaire answers tied to a control you have
Days 61 to 9003

Run

Releases that touch PHI go through a review gate. You get a report you can hand a hospital or a board.

  • Review gate for changes that touch PHI
  • Monthly one-page CTO report
  • The same CTO on the call each week
NDA before accessSigned before anyone sees a repository, environment, or PHI.
Read-only by defaultWrite access only when you grant it, for a named task.
Your code stays with youReviews happen in your environment.
Not a certificationWe do not certify HIPAA compliance. We are not auditors.

CareMetxHealthcare

Engineers on a patient hub services platform

CareMetx helps patients get on and stay on specialty therapies, including benefits verification, prior authorization support, and patient support. Maxiom provided staff augmentation: architects, engineers, developers, and designers joined the CareMetx team on CareMetx Connect, its cloud platform for hub services. The platform runs on Azure and Microsoft Dynamics, in a service oriented architecture. Patients, providers, pharmacies, payers, and manufacturers touch the same case, so health information has to be handled at every step.

Meet Maxiom
FAQ

Straight answers.

Do you certify HIPAA compliance?

No. We are not auditors and we do not certify HIPAA compliance. You get a written list of gaps, owners, and the controls you already have.

What does the CTO own in a health product?

Architecture calls, where PHI sits, EHR integrations, vendor and BAA reviews, and the security answers a hospital or payer will ask for. Day-to-day tickets stay with your team.

Do you sign our vendor BAAs for us?

No. We inventory the BAAs you have with hosting, EHR, and other vendors, and we name an owner for each one. We do not sign them in your place.

Do you need access to our code and to PHI?

We need read-only access to the code and the cloud configuration, after an NDA. Your code stays in your environment. We do not take a copy of patient records.

Have you worked on healthcare software?

Yes. Maxiom joined the CareMetx team on CareMetx Connect, the cloud hub platform for specialty therapies, on Azure and Microsoft Dynamics. The case study on this page is that work.

How do we start?
